Migratory motor complex

Kirsten collaborated with the contemporary artist James Richards for the six channel audio installation Migratory Motor Complex. James and Kirsten spent several days in the recording studio to gather materials for the work that formed the main exhibition piece for James’s showcase as the Venice Biennale in 2017. Kirsten’s improvisations around writer Chris McCormack’s accompanying text, were heard by over 30,000 visitors to the world’s most admired art exhibition before the installation traveled throughout Europe.

This immersive installation was exhibited in 2019 as part of Help Musicians UK’s first Fusion Fund and was also supported by: Audio-Technica Europe, Cloth Cat Animation, and the Friends of RWCMD.
Children of all ages and abilities are introduced to the 4 families of the orchestra through, touch, sound and play int his installation. Kirsten created a free space for children to play, learn and conduct their own orchestra using adapted gaming consoles which controlled pre-recorded orchestral families and associated animations created by Cloth Cat Animation.
Kirsten hopes to one day recreate her installation multiple times as a permanent feature in children’s hospices across the UK and USA.
